3 budget-friendly air travel tips for seniors

Its most of our desires to quit working and take out time for travel and leisure. People over the age of 60 have this advantage with them. But unfortunately, some people feel that luxury travels are too heavy on pockets. Snagging a deal on your flight, hotel, or events might not be as difficult as you had thought but you will need to be a bit persistent about it. So, here are 3 budget-friendly air travel tips to help you to reach your dream destination faster.

  • Look for the organizations that offer seniors travel discounts: Getting older does have its privileges. Americans who join the AARP can often get senior discounts benefits on plane tickets, hotels, and other travel-related costs. According to the AARP survey, 56% of the baby boomers said the promise of spending more time with family and friends motivated them to travel. AARP membership costs only $16. Most countries have similar programs that are either sponsored by the government or private organizations.
  • Plan to Travel in the Off-Season: One of the benefits of traveling as a senior is that you likely have relatively open availability. You don’t have to travel during a popular tourist time. When you are planning to book your airline flights and hotel accommodations, keep peak season in mind and stay far away. In general, try to travel between April and June or September through October which is the best month for traveling and always there is a special offer available in these seasons for seniors’ citizens. You will be likely to get better deals during “down times.” Be sure to research your destination and find out exactly when the busiest seasons are. And if you can be flexible with last-minute travel, you may be able to make all your budget travel dreams come true.
  • Extend your trip with a free stopover: Especially when you are traveling internationally, many airline itineraries might result in you having a significant wait time before your flight home. Like if you are an American traveling from Rome to New York with a stop in London to catch your connecting flight, you might have to wait several hours, or even overnight, before your flight departs. So use this as an opportunity to extend your vacation and ask the airline for a free stopover. Many airlines will happily give you a free additional day in the city of your connecting flight, at no additional cost. Using free stopovers is often a great way to see more cities that you might never otherwise have an opportunity to visit. Traveling on a budget can be tricky, but it is more achievable than you might have assumed. By planning, being flexible, and not being afraid to ask about hidden savings, you may be able to afford a trip you have always wanted to take.
