Types Of Food You Can Bring On The Airplane

Flying over the holidays this year, but wondering what food you can actually take through the airport security? We all know that struggle of streamlining the food items in order to make it through the various security checkpoints at the airport. LatinOFare lists down for you the types of food you can carry on the airplane flight.

  • Liquid or gel food items larger than 3.4 oz are not allowed in carry-on bags and should be placed in your check-in bags if required. For example- Creamy dips and cheese, soups, dressings, jams, honey, ice-cream, oils, vinegars, wine, whiskey, and beer.
  • Snacks that you can carry on an airplane flight include granola bars, nuts, dried fruits, celery and carrot sticks, fruits (apples, oranges, and bananas), firm cheese, pretzels, cookies, gum, chips, pastries, candy, and pies.
  • Apart from the obvious snack items one can carry Pasta (Easy to warm up with hot water), Grain Salads and Lentils ( A great on-the-go meal which is yummy and filling), sandwiches

(A substantial meal that can be whipped up in a minute), or Vegetables and Beans (A meal that generally lasts all day long and heat up well with water).

  • Be considerate of your fellow passengers and don’t pack foods that have a strong odor. Anything with a heavy garlic, onion or fishy aroma should be avoided.
  • Ensure that any kind of home food or semi- eaten food like half- eaten fruits etc. is wrapped or carried in a container.
  • Meat, seafood, and other frozen food are permitted in both carry-on and checked bags. If the food is packed with ice or ice packs in a cooler or other container, the ice or ice packs must be completely frozen when brought through screening. If the ice or ice packs melts partially spilling the liquid at the bottom of the container, they will not be permitted. Pack your frozen perishables in dry ice to take it in the carry-on or checked bags.
  • A live lobster is even allowed through security if transported in a clear, plastic, spill proof container. But before you carry that, make sure you check with the airline as well.

Food is like one of those things that you are can never quote for sure what you can and cannot take. Even after adhering to the list there are chances that some rogue agent at the security check ends up giving you a hard time, but as far as the law goes, it’s allowed. So, next time you are planning to carry a meal on an airplane flight, go through these guidelines by LatinOFare for passing the security gates quickly and easily.
