Things To Do When You Get Sick Traveling

Imagine you are in the middle of your vacay and you are feeling all excited and happy. However, the next day is not quite the same. You wake up and find yourself struggling even to stand straight. Like anything else in life, your vacations can turn into a nightmare with a sudden sickness. Wondering what to do next? Relax, here are a few tips to get well soon.

Ask for medical help

Going to a foreign land might expose you to a new set of bacteria or disease that you haven’t faced back home. Therefore, look for an in-house doctor or medical team at the place where you are staying. If not look for the nearest medical center to see a doctor. The last thing you want is to take your symptoms lightly.

Carry a medical and first aid kit

It’s strange why people carry loads of clothes without a small medical kit. There is no point in carrying that extra baggage if you fall sick. Therefore, always carry medicines, which are effective against symptoms like flu, diarrhea, headache, allergies and body aches. After all, prevention is better than cure.

Keep yourself away from fellow travelers

If you are traveling with others, make sure you don’t become the source of their sickness. Keep yourself and your belongings away from your fellow travelers. Also, meeting new people puts you at further risk to aggravate your sickness or symptoms. Therefore, it’s better to isolated or quarantined.

Eat light. Sleep tight.

You must be craving for the street food on your trip but now is not the time to even touch it. Have plenty of soups, stews and tea to help you recover and get back to shape. It’s also very important to have only purified water either from the filter or packaged drinking water. Tap water is a strict no-no. Sleep helps in getting your health back to shape so take rest as much as possible.

Don’t take undue stress

Stress can worsen your condition when you are feeling sick. Instead, focus on the fun you’ve had so far or the people around you to take care of. Meditation is also a good idea to calm yourself and remove all the mental toxins and baggage.

Contact your consulate

If your symptoms are pretty serious and you want to head back, it is best to contact your embassy or consulate in a foreign country. It’s particularly handy when there is a lack of awareness, language barrier and lack of medical support. The staff at the consulate will help you get in touch with the best healthcare providers, arrange any funds if possible and contact your family back home for any assistance. So, if things are getting worse, this is your go-to place.
